Check point nets DUI arrest

RED BAY – A Red Bay man was arrested for felony DUI as a result of a checkpoint set up by the Red Bay Police Department Monday night.
Jeffrey Roger Garrison, 45, of Red Bay was taken into custody after allegedly telling officers that he was intoxicated when they asked for his license at the checkpoint, Red Bay Police Chief Pat Creel said.
"Felony DUI is a Class C felony, and is punishable up to 10 years in prison," Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said.
Garrison has prior convictions in Florida, which include grand larceny, burglary, shoplifting, theft, and drug charges, Creel said. While Garrison does have a previous record, felony DUI does not fall under the habitual offender clause, and his prior convictions should not affect his DUI charges, Rushing said. Creel said that Garrison was the only felony arrest as a result of the checkpoint, which was a part of the Red Bay's Click it or Ticket campaign this Memorial Day.
