Relay for Life in final prep stages

With this year's Relay For Life less than a week away, the Franklin County Relay Committee is working to finalize preparations for the event, which will be held May 4.
While Relay has been an annual event in Franklin County for more than a decade, the committee has voted to bring a few new aspects to the event.
The Look Good, Lucy competition is a friendly contest in which teams are asked to dress up a mannequin's head with wigs, hats, and other items that can be donated to the Look Good, Feel Better program in Franklin County.
"All items collected at our Relay stays in Franklin County's Look Good, Feel Better program," Carol Hall with the LGFB program said.
Another newer event for the Relay is the Hats Off to Survivors collection.
This is where hats are collected so they can be distributed to cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy and are facing hair loss, Beth Faulkner, ACS, said.
"We need more ladies hats instead of caps this year so everyone is encouraged to bring a ladies' hat if possible," Faulkner said.
The Survivor's Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. at the RHS Cafeteria, with the first lap starting at 7 p.m. The committee voted to bring back the armband policy again this year. Everyone must have an armband before entering into the event. There will be a $5 donation for those who don't have an armband.
There will be a new change in the Relay awards this year. In the past, the awards are given out at the end, the Relay Committee decided to have a Relay Wrap up and Awards Dinner.
"We decided to give out the awards a different night because in the past almost everyone is gone, and some were not there to get their award," Faulkner said.
