Maybe I'll be a better soccer mom

While high school baseball is in its final innings, my older son's teeball season is still in full swing. My husband was asked to volunteer as a coach when we signed Jordan up to play, but Jimmy insisted that he could not coach because of his work schedule.
However, they needed coaches, and he agreed on the stipulation that they would get him an assistant coach to take over when he is out of town.
At first, everything seemed fine. But, soon after the season began, the assistant coach flaked out on us, and since I am the coach's wife, the responsibility fell on my shoulders.
So here I find myself a teeball coach.
The problem is I am not what you would call athletic.
I played teeball when I was in kindergarten, and softball when I was in the first grade, and that's about it with the exception of the time that I decided to try basketball my sophomore year of high school.
The basketball experience was somewhat traumatic, and I really don't care to talk about it.
So imagine me with my lack of sports knowledge coaching teeball. It really is quite amusing.
Last week at our game, I was so lost that three of the dads on our team agreed to coach the game for me, which was a big relief because I am clueless.
The problem with teeball is that the rules have changed so much since I was a kid. When I played, the game was played about like baseball except you bat off a tee. This is not the case with the teeball league in Haleyville. For some reason, the rules say to not have outs, to not throw the ball, and games last for three innings or 45 minutes, which ever comes first.
Now, I can get all of those changes and that's fine, but then you have individual coaches who are trying to prepare their kids for Dixie Youth baseball, changing the rules to include throwing the ball, getting them out, and stealing bases, and that's where it gets complicated.
You never know how the other team will play the game.
I was so confused last week, I did not know what to do so I just sat down and let the men handle it. My motto is that if I am doing the best I can, and the other person can still do it better, I just let that person do it. At least, that's my motto when it comes to sports but with everything having someone else do it better just makes me try harder.
