July target date set for Red Bay City Hall

RED BAY – Red Bay City Officials plan to be in their new city hall by the first of July.
The 4200 square foot building will house offices for the mayor, city clerk, revenue officer, court clerk, as well as a courtroom and meeting rooms according to Mayor Jeff Reid.
Construction is also underway on the new police department.
Construction crews had the ground breaking yesterday and hope to have it completed by September.
Fire destroyed Red Bay's Municipal Building, destroying both the city hall and the police station, in May of 2006 after a squirrel caused an electrical transformer to ground out and explode. A severed power line ignited the fire.
Contractors from Burton Builders expected construction to be complete six months from the date of the site preparation, which began on January 2.
"The walls went up (Thursday), and the roof is completed," said Mayor Jeff Reid. "They should be working on the inside sometime next week, and should be done with everything by the first of July."
City Hall has been located in a temporary location next to the Revenue Commissioner's Office on First Street.
