Russellville facing Gardendale today

By Staff
Rebecca James, Franklin County Times
The Russellville Golden Tiger baseball team is in the playoffs for the first time in five years and they're not looking to drop out anytime soon.
After a convincing 9-2 win over Fairfield Tuesday, Russellville goes into a weekend best two-out-of-three match with Gardendale.
However, the Rockets are coming off a 9-0 win over Walker High School Tuesday as well.
Still, Russellville Coach David Ward is excited that his Tigers will get to play at home for the second round.
"We didn't really have a preference between Walker and Gardendale," Ward said of which team he'd rather face. "Gardendale is a good team, but we're just happy that we get to play at home."
Had Walker beaten Gardendale, Russellville's game would have been on the road at Walker. The Tigers have been practicing since their win Tuesday to prepare for the next round of the playoffs.
But Ward was quick to add that the team is treating today's game like it was just another game.
"We've had to approach this game just like we do any other game," he said, "but we've had to work a little harder to get ready."
The best of three series gets started today with games at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.. If needed, the third game of the series is planned for Saturday at 1 p.m.
