GULF SHORES- For the second straight year, Northwest Shoals Community College fell just three points short of earning a state title in tennis.
Central Alabama edged the Patriots 15-12 to earn a berth at a national tournament.
"We played well, but it wasn't quite good enough." said Coach Kristy Ward, "The good thing is all but two of our players are freshmen this year."
Northwest was matched against Central Alabama in every match in the championship, but only Russellville natives Shayna Glasgow and Lauren Cole emerged to win titles at the state level. Glasgow emerged with a state title at number six singles, and then paired up with Lindsay Cole to earn them both a title at number three doubles.
"They have improved tremendously this year." said Coach Kristy Ward, "They came in and worked really hard everyday."
