APT to honor Russellville first grader

Russellville first-grader Kacie Fleming will be one of 12 Alabama schoolchildren honored by Alabama Public Television (APT) April 21 during the 13th annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest awards ceremony.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Alabama Book Festival in Montgomery's Old Alabama Town. Fleming earned a second-place award for her work titled "Lucky Lawrence."
The awards ceremony is the culmination of an annual contest that kicked off nation-wide in January. Kindergarten through third-graders were invited to write and illustrate original story books More than 50,000 entries were received across America, 224 in Alabama. First place winners in each grade will go on to compete in the national contest.
In addition to being honored at the Alabama Book Fair, first through third-place winners in Alabama will receive a generous gift package and will be treated to a luncheon at Montgomery's historic Young House. All entrants to the competition received a special Certificate of Participation signed by "Reading Rainbow" host LeVar Burton.
