Weigh the cost versus benefit

The idea of a tax increase is about as popular as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was at the beginning of his journey to greatness. And when they pop up in discussion, they stick out about as much.
Taxation is never a popular topic unless your on the majority side: The we hate them side.
Sure, in a perfect world there would be no taxes and roads would be paved, police and firemen would be paid and elected officials would be compensated all without taxes.
These things would just happen magically.
But here in the real world taxes exist and, like them are not they are the driving force behind education, road improvements, and just about everything else on a municipal and federal level.
The more taxes that are pumped into a system, if they are handled properly, the stronger the infrastructure becomes. You need only to look at places like Hoover and Vestavia Hills, who have some of the highest taxes in the state, but routinely are ranked among the best schools in Alabama. As a whole, if you want something, you're going to have to sacrifice to get it. It appears growth here will come at the expense of one more dollar on each hundred dollars. We encourage Rep. Morrow and Sen. Bedford to introduce this bill in whichever language they deem best for everyone, but ask that it come before the voters of Franklin County, who should have the final say. But remember before you cast that vote: Don't think of it as one more penny on the dollar you're not bringing home but how much could that one more cent mean to the county?
