Former commissioner Lindsey passes

Former Franklin County Commissioner Marvin Lowell "John" Lindsey died yesterday at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence. He was 71.
He was a former member of the Cattlemen's Association and served as a Franklin County Commissioner from 1988-1992.
"I thought he was a great man," said Franklin County Commissioner Gene Graham. "He was a great commissioner, too."
He was a member of Chisholm Heights Church of Christ. He owned and operated John's Auction for a number of years.
He served in the Alabama National Guard for thirty years and retired from the Alabama Highway Department with 32 years of service.
Visitation will be held today from 5-8 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville. Funeral services will be held April 12 at 11 a.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville, with Willie Hamblen and Charles Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memory Gardens.
He was a native of Marion County. He lived in Russellville from 1988 until 1996 and moved to Florence where he had lived for the past 11 years.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hovater Lindsey; sisters, Leora Towery, of Indianola, Mississippi, and Jesca Robinson, of Slidell, Louisiana; grandchildren, Michelle Andrews, Melissa Andrews, and Ryan Andrews; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Hovater (Judy), and Donnie Hovater (Vickie); special cousin, Jimmie Lou Reynolds, and several nieces and nephews.
