Russellville High School's Junior Varsity Scholars Bowl Team has been selected to attend the State Scholar's Bowl Competition in April.
The team is among 16 other teams from around the state that will compete in the State Competition that will be held April 13-14 at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, and is the only team from the Russellville area that will be competing.
"They are a good team," said Scholar's Bowl sponsor and Enrichment teacher Sharon Daily. "They've worked hard to get where they are."
The team has competed at and won three Junior Varsity tournaments around the state at the Brindlee Mountain Lion Bowl, the Hoover High School Invitational and the Vanderbilt University Academic Quiz Bowl.
From there, the team went on to compete and win the District Scholar's Bowl Tournament at NWSCC, where they were undefeated in their class, a win that moved them on to the Regional Tournament.
The Regional Tournament was held March 10 at South Lamar High School. The team also went undefeated and was guaranteed a trip to state competition.
The team has been practicing hard for the competition since their win.
"Our goal was to get to state tournament and do well," Daily said. "We've worked hard for it all year."
"I think the team has done a wonderful job this year. I'm very pleased that they have qualified for the state tournament and I think they will do well."
