Lacey pitches Bobcats past Cherokee

Steven Lacey allowed only four hits in a complete game on Monday as Phil Campbell opened play in Class 2A, Area 16 with a 5-1 win over Cherokee.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and then added another run in the second.
Lacey also had a big day at the plate, finishing with a pair of doubles and an RBI.
Jonathan Dill added a double and an RBI, and Caleb Thompson, Chase White and Dillan Hamby each had run-scoring singles.
Cody Lambert took the loss for Cherokee.

Mars Hill scored two runs in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and then added two more in the seventh on Tuesday to finish off a two-game sweep of Red Bay in Class 2A, Area 16 play.
Morgan Stanfield led the Tigers (20-10, 0-2) at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple. Derrick Miller added a double.
Jordan Abrams was the winning pitcher for the Panthers (14-10, 2-0). Brandon Brown took the loss.
Mars Hill 10 Red Bay 2
The Panthers broke open a close game on Monday with a five-run fourth inning, highlighted by Randy Gooch's three-run homer.
Mars Hill finished with 10 hits on the afternoon. Cody Armstrong took the loss for Red Bay.
Stephen Prestage drove in both runs for the Tigers with RBI groundouts in the fourth and sixth innings. Ely Cox had two hits and two runs scored, and Morgan Stanfield was 3-for-3 with a double.
