A local man was arrested Monday and charged with child abuse after allegedly beating a young family member with a belt.
Sheriff Larry Plott said Lonnie Paul Pounders, 40, of 6397 Waterloo Road in Russellville, is charged with one count of aggravated child abuse, a Class B felony punishable by 2-20 years in prison.
Investigators said the arrest stems from an incident that took place on March 16 and was reported to the sheriff's department on March 18. Following further
investigation, warrants were obtained for Pounders' arrest.
According to investigators, the victim was under the age of 18 and suffered severe bruises to the forehead, back, neck and arms. The Department of Human Resources was called in to assist on the case, Plott said.
Pouders was released on bond totaling $22,500.
