Win or lose, we're proud of our team

By Staff
For the third straight year, the Russellville Golden Tigers have extended their football season as far as the AHSAA allows.
Tomorrow afternoon, the team will compete again against nemesis Homewood for the Class 5A state championship at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover.
Our society places an inordinate amount of emphasis these days on winning.
Win it all, or you've won nothing…that's the attitude of far too many fans and pundits today.
But we're here to say that it's a remarkable achievement for a team to make it to the state finals three years in a row. This may very well be Russellville's year to knock off Homewood and win it all, but win or lose, it's been a great run for the Golden Tigers.
As the city's 'hometown' newspaper, we do our best to cover Russellville football with a bright and shining light. We write extended game stories, take scores of pictures, and try to give the team, along with our other three county football teams, as much coverage as possible.
Throughout the state playoffs, we also do special salute pages with extra pictures of the playoff teams.
Today, as we did last year, we present a special four-page "wrapper" as a tribute to this year's edition of the Golden Tigers. It features a team picture, pictures of the team's starters, a game preview and other pictures of this year's team.
We do all this because we're just as proud of this team as many local residents are. We are on the side of things that are good for our county, and high school football success is certainly one of those things.
The city of Russellville is behind you, Golden Tigers.
Here's wishing you the best tomorrow and congratulating you on a great season!
