Hunters can sight in their firearms for free on the new rifle shooting range at the Meridian Public Safety Training Center on Saturday. The facility offers target stands at 100, 200 and 300 yards distance.
The center is located on Sand Flat road just east of the Highway 45 Bypass over Highway 19 South. Traveling southeast from Meridian on Highway 19, turn right onto Sand Flat road and stay to the right at the next turn, which is a continuation of Sand Flat Road. After driving a short distance, the center will be visible on the right.
Shooters should report to the center at 9 a.m. Saturday and sight-in will begin by 9:30 a.m.
The sight-in day is sponsored by the Training Center and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. Personnel led by Bunky Partridge, Homeland Security director for the city of Meridian, and Bobby Wilder, Conservation Officer for MDWFP will conduct a brief safety presentation before the session.
Hunters understand the importance of checking the sight alignment of stored rifles and those shooting new loads or different brands of ammunition.
The event will be held rain or shine. More information is available by calling the Meridian Public Safety Training Center at 484-6890.
