Local girls donate gifts to St. Jude

Cake, ice cream and lots and lots of gifts.
That's what the typical 12 year-old's birthday party consists of.
And that's exactly what Maegan and Molly Evetts had at their birthday party on Sept. 18.
But instead of racing out to play with all the new toys that the twins had just received, they chose to make their special day into someone else's special day.
After hearing a story of one child who collected stuffed animals for St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., the girls decided that they wanted to donate all of their gifts to the hospital.
When the birthday invitations went out to their guests, it included a list of acceptable items that could be given to the hospital and each person was asked to bring an unwrapped item to be sent to St. Jude.
More than 50 friends and family filled three large boxes with dolls, race tracks, games and art supplies as well as $155 which was to be given to the children at the hospital.
On Oct. 3, the girls and their family traveled to Memphis to make the special delivery. Although the girls were not able to personally visit with the patients, due to their age, they did learn that the most special gift is unselfish love.
