Bubba Hampton, the United Way of East Mississippi's fund-raising chairman, announced Wednesday that this year's campaign has reached the halfway point.
Hampton is challenging the community to help the United Way help people in need: "We can make a difference by merely giving to the United Way."
Thad Quarles, executive director, agreed.
United Way chairman Tony Pompelia put it this way: "All of us have needed an extended hand from time to time in our lives and that's what United Way is all about."
Contributions to the United Way of East Mississippi go toward funding 14 local agencies, such as the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross, Wesley House, LOVE's Kitchen, Foster Grandparents and the Boys and Girls Scouts. The United Way is governed by local citizens interested in the welfare and safekeeping of their community.
