MACON Services for Mary Stokes Luke will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shuqualak Cemetery with the Rev. Don Sampley officiating. Cockrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Stokes, 106, of Shuqualak, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at Guardian Angel Hospice in Meridian. She was a native of the Coy Community in Kemper County and moved to Shuqualak in April 1921 after her marriage. She and her husband owned a general merchandise store until their retirement. She was a member of Shuqualak Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathryn Luke Hensleigh of Shuqualak and Gloria Luke Tubb of Meridian; grandchildren; Van Jackson Tubb of Memphis, James Benson Tubb of Shuqualak and William Luke Tubb of Wahalak; great-grandchildren, Christopher Lukas Tubb of Shuqualak; Katye Elizabeth Tubb of Meridian, Laura Benson Tubb of Macon and Jackson Holloman Tubb of Memphis; two great-great-grandchildren, Logan McKenzie Tubb and Anna Kathryn Tubb; five nieces and six nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Van Luke; her parents, Andy Willis and Laura Seals Stokes; and sisters, Maggie S. Stokes, Georgia S. Gully, Leona S. Luke, Gertrude B. Stokes, Iva S. More, Earline S. Skipper, Jewel S. Cox and Marjorie S. Mabry.

UNION Services for Edsel "Reece" Amis will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home chapel in Newton with the Revs. Mark Vincent and Clifton Thornton officiating. Burial will be in Pine Bluff Baptist Church cemetery with Stephens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Amis, 71, of Decatur, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He retired from Mississippi Regional Authority in Newton.
Survivors include his wife, Ola Mae Amis of Decatur; sons, Daniel Amis and his wife, Melody, of Raleigh, Allen Amis and his wife, Kim, and George Amis and his wife, Cheryl, all of Decatur, and Mark Amis and his wife, Tammy, of Flora; 10 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; one great-grandchild; sisters, Frances Buntyn of Union, Sue Clarke of Hattiesburg and Glenda Bishop of Conehatta; brothers, Frank Amis of Cleburn, Texas and Mike Amis of Batesville.
Visitation will held today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home in Newton and two hours prior to the service.

NEW ORLEANS Services for Patrick F. Taylor will be held Wednesday at noon at St. Louis Cathedral. Burial will be in Circle Bar Ranch in Foxworth, Miss., with Bultman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Taylor, 67, of New Orleans, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Touro Infirmary. He was chairman, president, CEO and sole-owner of Taylor Energy Company and the creator of the Taylor Plans (TOPS) in Louisiana and Higher Education Legislative Plan for Needy Students (HELP) in Mississippi. He spent half of his time at his at his beloved Circle Bar Ranch in Foxworth, Miss. A successful oilman, inspiring leader and prominent citizen in his community, he wholly committed himself to the ideal that every young person should have the opportunity to achieve a quality college education. He was born in Beaumont, Texas, on June 12, 1937. He received a full scholastic scholarship from the Kinkaid School in Houston, and completed school despite leaving home at age 16. After high school, he left Texas to attend Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge. Learning that Louisiana State University did not charge tuition, he was able to receive a college education. During his sophomore year at LSU, he joined the Marine Corps PLC officer training program. Unfortunately, a heart condition prevented his completing his senior course and he was honorable discharged from the Corps on Oct. 16, 1959.
