Lynn Taylor of Marion and Sharon Geddie of Pachuta have been selected to receive the Miriam Roberson Nursing Scholarships at Meridian Community College.
These $700 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Thomas Roberson of Meridian.
A 1966 graduate of Choctaw County High School, Taylor is a third semester student in the Associates Degree Nursing Program. She is a member of the Mississippi Organization of Student Nursing, Wesley House and Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year college students. She plans to pursue a bachelor's and doctorate degree in nursing.
Geddie is a 1981 graduate of Taylorsville High School. A third semester nursing student, she is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Mississippi Organization of Student Nursing. In addition to her nursing studies, she is employed full time. Her plans are to pursue a bachelor's of science degree in nursing.
David Rashad Close, Joseph Terrell Cole and Joel Howard Stinson from Meridian are among 606 students participating in the Mississippi State University Cooperative Education Program.
The program, available to students in Agriculture and Life Sciences, allows students to receive a college education as well as practical experience in his or her chosen field of study.
After completing his third work semester with Entergy Operations in New Orleans, Close will return to MSU to complete requirements toward a degree in computer engineering. He is the son of Samuel David Close and Doris Francis Close.
Cole is completing his third semester with Southern Company-West in Birmingham. He will return to MSU to complete requirements toward a degree in Electrical Engineering. He is the son of David and Shirley Cole.
Stinson is completing his third work semester with Cooper Tire&Rubber in Tupelo. He will return to the MSU campus to complete requirements toward a degree in mechanical engineering.
Mandy Melia Pickett of Meridian is a 2004-2005 recipient of the Ag 100 and the Minor S. and Helen D. Gray scholarships awarded by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Pickett is a senior at Mississippi State University, majoring in human sciences with a concentration in interior design. She is the daughter of Ronnie and Jan Pickett of Meridian.
