Meridian library sponsors gingerbread house contest

Gingerbread houses require work and patience to create and Sarah Mutziger with the Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Library wants you to know your efforts will be rewarded.
Registration in the library's second annual gingerbread house contest is now underway and continues through Nov. 10. There is no entry fee.
Participants can include adults, children 8 and older, groups or families.
The library is making one new change in the structure of the competition this year. There will be an amateur and professional chefs/bakers category.
Besides the amateur and professional chef category, entries also will be divided into two divisions: one for actual gingerbread houses and one for "anything goes."
The "anything goes" category is for houses built from any type of food except gingerbread.
The contest is limited to the first 38 entries. The houses will be on display in glass cases for three weeks, Nov. 13-Dec. 4.
A panel of volunteers from the community will serve as judges; they will rate the houses on excellence in construction and creativity. Winners will receive certificates of excellence and ribbons.
To help participants, the library will place its gingerbread books on reserve for contestants to use as a reference for ideas and recipes.
