Jay, Thornhill

Melissa Katherine Thornhill and Dennis Stephen Jay were married Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at the 5 J Farm in Meridian. The farm is home of Larry and Diane Johnson, cousins of the bride.
Parents of the couple are Sylvia Thornhill of Meridian and the late Wayne Thornhill of Vossburg, and W.F. Jay of Garlandsville and the late Ruth Jay.
The bride is the granddaughter of Charlie Butler and the late Jean Butler and the late John and Velma Thornhill, all of Meridian.
The bridegroom is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Jay of Newton, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Foley Sr. of Jasper County.
Music for the ceremony was provided by Bunny Stephens of Meridian.
The bride was escorted by her brother, Chuck Thornhill and given in marriage by her brother and grandfather. She wore a white satin gown featuring a strapless bodice with embroidery of pearls and crystal beading. The gown was gathered with a rhinestone bow at the waistline. The skirt was trimmed with pearls, crystal beading and tiny bows with rhinestones accented the train. She wore a strand of pearls given to her by her grandfather and carried a linen handkerchief belonging to her maternal great-grandmother.
Lisa Thornhill, sister-in-law of the bride, served as matron of honor.
Stephen Jay, son of the bridegroom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Matthew Thornhill, nephew of the bride, and Alan Holcomb, cousin of the bride.
Assisting at the reception were Jan Reynolds, Diane Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Jill Johnson, Amy Johnson, Teresa Knight, Faye Wooten and Nancy Gipson.
Bridal showers were hosted by Faye Wooten, Debbie Hererra of Havelock, N.C., and Perrin Weems and Tamara Smith of Meridian.
A family dinner was held at The Rustler Steak House and hosted by the brother of the bride, Chuck Thornhill.
