Park plan takes another step

The improvement project for City Lake in Russellville took another step forward at a special called city council meeting Wednesday afternoon.
The council voted unanimously to accept a bid, not to exceed $49,500, from Moore Dozer Service for work at the park.
The dozer work will include scraping the bottom of the recently-drained lake to make it deeper.
The project is part of a larger effort to renovate the park, part of an overall park improvement project the city has been working on for several years. New playground equipment has already been added to Eastside Park and the Chucky Mullins Center, as well as some cosmetic changes.
The city has $125,000 budgeted for the project at City Lake Park.
While the scraping from the lake is being done, work will also begin on repairing the dam and spillway at the end of the lake.
The playground, Grissom said, will consist of three separate sets of equipment for three different age groups. Possible future plans at the park call for a pavilion and amphitheater.
In other business Wednesday, the council approved a bid from Abraham Generator Sales for $20,250 for a generator to power City Hall during power outages.
Also, Mayor Johnny Brown appointed himself, new councilman Arthur Elliot and Evelyn Groce to six-year terms on the Planning and Zoning Board.
The council will have a regular meeting Monday night at 7 p.m. in the City Hall auditorium, with a work session preceding the meeting at 6 p.m.
