Meridian rolls to 22-0 softball win

Meridian High School's slow-pitch softball team sealed a playoff berth in its three-team division Tuesday night.
The Lady Wildcats (12-3, 3-0 District) posted a 22-0 win in five innings over Forest Hill to secure a spot in the post season. Meridian High defeated Forest Hill 41-1 in the two teams' first game this year, and the Lady Wildcats downed district foe Hattiesburg 11-2 on Monday.
Meridian High pounded out 21 hits in its win over Forest Hill, with Carsheena Blanks leading the charge by notching two doubles and two singles.
J'Quandra Hickman recorded a single, double and homer for the Lady Wildcats, and Artesian Boyd notched two singles and a double. Lainie Simcox recorded a double and home run.
Sarah Beckman, Lindsay Lang and Brittany Simmons each posted two hits for Meridian High. The Lady Wildcats' Courtney Trotter hit a triple, and Brandi Limerick added a double.
Meridian High continues its season against West Lauderdale at 7 p.m. Thursday on the road.

Newton County 7 – Morton 5
Kasie Buckley drove in four runs and hit a single and triple for Newton County (10-8, 6-3 District) in the team's win over Morton on Tuesday.
Lindsey Little, Lindsey Stevens and Callie Cumberland each notched two hits for Newton County, and Chassidy Smith (10-8) picked up the win on the mound.
Newton County continues its season against Carthage at 7 p.m. Thursday on the road.

Union 19 – Edinburg 0
Union pounded out 19 hits to score as many runs in its win over Edinburg on Monday.
Tiffany Thomas posted three hits with a home run for Union, and Morgan Breland hit a triple and a homer in the win.
Morgan Milling and Loren Kennedy each went 2-for-4 with a triple for Union, and Amechia Hickmon went 2-for-3 with a triple. Amber Smith went 2-for-2.
Chasity Yates picked up the win on the mound to improve to 12-4 for the season, and she went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Union continues the season against South Leake at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Lamar 2 – Central Hinds 0
Lamar School's girls soccer team posted its seventh straight win by defeating Central Hinds, recently.
Sumner Brown posted the Lady Raiders' first goal in the 14th minute off an assist from Amy Swartzfager, and Jasmine Harris tallied a goal in the 30th minute off an assist from Brown.
Lamar wraps up regular season play against Jackson Prep at 5 p.m. Monday at the Northeast Soccer Complex. The winner of Monday's game will win the district title and have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
