Lions' safety earns defensive weekly honor

East Mississippi Community College strong safety NeAndre Hoskins was named Defensive Player of the Week after recording 12 tackles and recovering two fumbles in the Lions' 28-18 loss to Itawamba.
Other Players of the Week were Northwest quarterback Lewis Kuffuor (offense) and Gulf Coast's Dantrell Savage (special teams).
Kuffour rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 128 yards and one touchdown in the Rangers' 24-12 victory over Mississippi Delta.
Savage had a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the Bulldogs' 41-30 win over Holmes.

Lady Eagles goalie swap
Meridian Community College head coach Alex George switched out his goal keeper with 12 minutes to play in the opening half of the Lady Eagles' 2-0 win over Jones County Junior College on Tuesday.
MCC's Darien Kittrell replaced Viveca Pavon in net. Pavon moved into the field as a winger.

Four untarnished, four unhappy
Four teams are still undefeated three weeks into the 2004 MACJC football season. Standing tall at 3-0 are Northwest Mississippi, Northeast Mississippi, Hinds, and Pearl River.
At the other end at 0-3 are Coahoma, East Mississippi, Holmes, and Southwest Mississippi.

Wounded Eagle
MCC men's soccer team's Paul Tate has been sidelined with a broken right foot.
The Eagles defender suffered the injury when he was helping a family member load a truck. Tate is doubtful to return for the rest of the season.

Coahoma can't hold water
The Coahoma Tigers are giving up a league-worst 47.7 points per game following last week's 43-13 loss to Northeast Mississippi.
The next worst defense is Copiah-Lincoln as the Wolves are allowing 30 points per contest.

MCC golf opener pushed back
The Meridian Community College golf team's opening tournament for the fall season was pushed back because of Hurricane Ivan.
The Eagles were supposed to open their fall schedule Monday and Tuesday at Briarwood Country Club, but because of damage to the course caused by Ivan, the MCC Fall Invitational was postponed.
A make-up date has not been set.
MCC will tee off its season in the Andrew College Invitational on Oct. 2-3 at Meadow Links in Fort Gaines, Ga.

Wildcats, Eagles have top offenses
Pearl River has the top offense in the MACJC thus far as the Wildcats have scored 118 points. In second place with 117 points are the Hinds Eagles.
