COLLEGE NOTEBOOK: 'Dogs have rough day on offense

By Staff
from staff reports
Sept. 12, 2004
Mississippi State's first-half offensive performance left little to be desired, the Bulldogs gained 116 yards and posted only five first downs.
When things started looking up for the Bulldogs late in the second quarter, everything quickly went downhill.
MSU quarterback Omarr Conner appeared to hit Will Prosser for a 20-yard gain to Auburn's 43, but Prosser was called for offensive pass interference moving the ball back to Mississippi State's 22-yard line setting up a second and 25.

Rough start for Nichols
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Jonathan Nichols is off to an inauspicious start.
The Ole Miss senior, who was named the nation's top place kicker in 2003, missed a 37-yard field goal in the first quarter against Alabama on Saturday. It was Nichols' second miss of the year.
Nichols missed just three field goals in all of 2003.

Out of a job?
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. Micheal Spurlock's tenure as Ole Miss' starting quarterback may be over.
