Lamar earns sixth straight soccer victory

Lamar School's girls soccer team blanked Laurel Christian to extend its winning streak to six game on Tuesday.
The Lady Raiders (6-5-1, 4-0 District) posted a 7-0 win over Laurel Christian at the Northeast Soccer Complex. Lamar hasn't lost a game since Aug. 22 in the Pillow Academy jamboree.
Emily Thompson and Margaret Cady each netted a goal for Lamar in the opening half to give the Lady Raiders a 2-0 lead at the break. Mary Elizabeth Futtrell assisted on Thompson's goal in the 14th minute, and Mary Grace Cady assisted on Margaret Cady's goal.
Thompson netted her second goal at the game's 40-minute mark, scoring off a corner kick from Jessi Fort, and Amy Swartzfager netted the next two goals for Lamar for a 5-0 lead.
Margaret Cady and Amanda Reau each netted goals to close the scoring for the Lady Raiders.
The Lady Raiders' scheduled game against Brookhaven on Thursday has been canceled.

PREP SOFTBALL
Philadelphia – 13 / Lake – 1
Four players hit home runs for Philadelphia in the team's five-inning win over Lake on Tuesday.
Philadelphia's Shenique Brass, Tiear Logan, Brittany Hodges and Jillian Sparnecht each bashed homers. Brass went 3-for-3, and Hodges went 2-for-3 in the win.
Shelby Smith turned in a 2-for-2 performance at the plate for Philadelphia.
Christina Gibbs and Kayla Mitchell each went 2-for-2 for Lake.
Philadelphia continues its season against Clarkdale on Tuesday on the road.

JUCO SOCCER
Holmes – 5 / East Mississippi – 1
East Mississippi Community College fell to 0-4 on Tuesday when the Lions lost 5-1 to homestanding Holmes Community College.
Columbus native Alex Pate scored East Mississippi's only goal.
EMCC plays at home on Saturday against Northwest. Both the men's and women's teams will play.

ECCC postponed
Tuesday's soccer match between East Central Community College and Pearl River Community College scheduled was postponed due to Hurricane Ivan and will be rescheduled at a later date.
The Soccer Warriors are 3-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the South following Saturday's 4-1 win over Copiah-Lincoln.

FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL MPSA Playoff schedule set
Four area girls fast-pitch softball teams will be headed to Amite School this weekend for the MPSA Class A South State Tournament.
Taking part in the event will be Kemper Academy, Central Academy, Heidelberg Academy and Wayne Academy.
Central takes on Glenbrook at 1 p.m. Saturday, while Heidelberg faces Glenbrook at the same time.
At 2:20 p.m. Kemper takes on Wilkinson while Amite tangles with Wayne Academy.
Contests set for 3:40 p.m. have the Central-Glenbrook winner facing Franklin and Huntington taking on the Heidelberg River Oaks winner.
The finals are set for 7:20 p.m. on Monday.
