Excellence in education

Laura Pickard and Zachary Wiskerchen, both of Meridian, have been selected to receive Nicholas Gianakos Memorial Scholarships at Meridian Community College.
These $1,000 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Kim Gianakos in memory of her nephew.
Pickard was the 2004 valedictorian at Clarkdale High School. She was varsity cheerleader captain, elected most beautiful, and vice president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
She was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. At MCC, she is in the University Transfer Program with plans to continue her education through the doctorate level in pharmacy.
Wiskerchen was the 2004 salutatorian at Southeast High School. He was an officer of the Beta Club, a member of the Math and Science team, and played on the football team.
He is in the University Transfer Program at MCC. He plans to pursue a career in engineering.
Ronald Paul Robinson of Collinsville has been selected to receive the Walter and Cora Thompson Johnson Memorial Scholarship at Meridian Community College.
This $1,200 award is funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Mrs. John H. Cook in memory of her parents, who had a deep love for education.
Robinson is a 2004 graduate of West Lauderdale High School. He was named to the National Honor Society and Who's Who Among American High School Students.
Robinson received the United States Achievement Academy's National Science Merit Award, the Leadership and Service Award, the History and Government Award and the Agriculture Award.
He is entering the University Transfer Program at MCC with plans to continue his education in veterinary medicine.
Felicia Dane White Bowden of Meridian has been selected to receive the Dixie Highway High School Scholarship for the fall and spring semesters at Meridian Community College.
This $300 award is funded through the MCC Foundation by alumni of the Dixie Highway High School. Preference is given to family members of former students of the school.
Bowden is a 2004 highest honors graduate of Clarkdale High School where she was the recipient of the National Leadership Award.
She was a member of the Future Child Care Leaders of America, the National Honor Society, the Beta Club, and the Spanish Club. Bowden is in the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at MCC.
