Meridian Community College forward Travis Brown's goal in the 79th minute against Hinds Community College wasn't the prettiest goal of his career, but it was probably the most satisfying.
Brown poked a shot past Hinds goalkeeper Brent Clark on a breakaway to break a two-goal tie and gave the MCC Eagles (2-2) a 3-2 win Wednesday night over the Hinds Eagles (3-1).
Brown's goal was the first for MCC since the game's 23-minute mark in the first half when the homestanding Eagles took a 2-0 lead.
Hinds tied the game at two by halftime, and the visiting Eagles controlled the ball for most of the second half, pinning MCC in its defensive zone.
MCC goalkeeper Justin Clearman kept his team in the game, stopping 14 of Hinds' 16 shots on goal.
The freshmen goalie put together a highlight reel of saves in the second half.
The MCC keeper's best save came with 40 ticks left on the clock, with Hinds' offense swarming MCC's net.
Clearman dove back into his goal from the left post to snatch a ball inches away from the goal line to preserve the victory.
Clearman also received plenty of help from MCC's defensive quartet, who blocked numerous shots from the point and forced Hinds' forwards to the wings for most of the night.
MCC came out of the gate strong scoring the first two goals of the game in the opening half's first 23 minutes.
Traye Torrance netted MCC's first goal off an assist from Brown in the game's 11th minute, and Steven Cook put in the home team's second goal off a throw-in by Chad Brunson at the 23-minute mark for a 2-0 lead.
Hinds' Chris Schaefer scored from 18 yards out on a shot from the middle of the field in the 33rd minute, and Michael Wilder scored when his shot deflected off a MCC defender and into the goal in the 36th minute.

Hinds' women's soccer team was in full control for 90 minutes of its 4-0 win over MCC.
The visiting Lady Eagles fired off 30 shots, with 12 shots on goal, as they passed around the homestanding Lady Eagles.
Even though Hinds kept the ball on MCC's half of the field for nearly the full 45 minutes of the first half, the visiting team only took a 1-0 lead into the break. Hinds' Stephanie Little scored off a rebound from a shot MCC's goalkeeper couldn't hang onto in the 24th minute.
Hinds had another bounce go its way in the second half, when Little scored off another rebound, this one off the crossbar, at the 52-minute mark.
Little picked her third goal for a natural hat trick in the game's 68th minute for a 3-0 lead, and Ashley Underwood netted the final goal of the game at the 82-minute mark.
MCC continues its season Pearl River Community College on Saturday.
