Browns hold lead at father-son championship

Ed and Nick Brown of Meridian fired a 12-under 60 at The Refuge golf course on Friday to share the first-day lead at the Mississippi Sports Medicine Father-Son State Golf Championship.
The two-person scramble golf tournament runs through Sunday with each team playing one round at three different golf courses in the Jackson area.
The Refuge yielded the lowest scores by far on Friday, as the team of Neil and Brandon Payne joined the Browns at 12-under. Three teams shot 61s, while four others fired 62s.
The Meridian teams of Bruce and Brett Clopton and Hunter George and Alex Weddington were among three duos to shoot 63s. Don Bounds and Shaun Eubanks shot a 64, while Robert and Dan Luke combined for a 66. Ray and Trey Long shot a 71.
The best score at the Patrick Farms golf course belonged to the teams of John Bowman and John McBeath and Brian and Ryan Hall who each shot 8-under 64s.
Jarrod and Benton Moulds of Meridian shot a 65, while Keith and John Everett carded and even par 72.
Cary and Dale Brainard shot a 63 to record the best score at Canton Country Club.
Jack and John Douglass of Meridian shot a 65, while Ronnie and Easton Key carded a 67. The second round is today, with the final round being played on Sunday.
