MESQUITE, Texas Services for Opal Helen Gist will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Jacob officiating. A private burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Dallas.
Mrs. Gist, 98, of Pittsburg, Texas, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, in Pittsburg. She was born on Sept. 17, 1905, to John Edward Wallace and Allie Holder Wallace. She was the eldest of five children and all have preceded her in death. After the death of her husband, she worked as a secretary for 30 years before retiring at the age of 79. She attended Lakewood Assembly of God before moving to Mississippi for five years and was a member of Grace Church of Collinsville. She returned to Mesquite in 1989, where she attended North Mesquite Assembly of God.
Survivors include her sons, Adolphus Gist Jr. and his wife, Mary Lou, of Dallas, Larry Gist and his wife, Gene, of Mesquite and Reggie Gist and his wife, Robyn, of Nashville; a daughter, Diane Jacob and her husband, John, of Nashville; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolphus Henry "Doc" Gist; her parents and five siblings.
Visitation will be today 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

NEWTON Services for William "Bill" D. Holsonback will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Bonner and John West officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Holsonback, 82, of Newton, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and worked offshore for catering services for more 30 years and as caterer for East Central Community College.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Harris and her husband, Ronnie, of Hickory; sons, Albert W. Holsonback of Shalimar, Fla., Richard E. Holsonback and his wife, Mary, and Ron Holsonback and his wife, Mijin, all of Newton; a sister, Mildred Nunn of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Lucy Holsonback; his parents, Derrick and Lula Askley Holsonback; and nine siblings.
Pallbearers will be Lance Gavin, Tim Mowdy, Tony Adams, Kerry Harrison, Larry Holsonback and Jim Pendergest. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Edwards, Dan Edwards, Bill Montgomery, Frank Baucum and Bobby Dearing.
Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

PHILADELPHIA Services for Johnnie C. Smith will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at John E. Stephens Chapel with the Rev. Charles Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Cedarlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Smith, 77, of Lawrence, formerly of Philadelphia, died Monday, May 17, 2004, at Newton Regional Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Smith of Lawrence; daughters, Lisa Carol Smith and Kimberly Duell, both of Lawrence, Wanda Smith and Debra Aguilar, both of Philadelphia; sons, James C. Smith of Brandon, Charles A. Smith of Kosciusko, John Wayne Smith and Ronnie Lee Smith, both of Philadelphia, Charles Clyde Smith of Lawrence, Danny Thomas Smith of Meridian and Nolan Smith Jr. of Lawrence; a brother, David Smith of Palm Beach, Fla.; 30 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services for Johnnie Ryan Camp will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Franklin McLelland and Dr. Carroll Camp officiating. Burial will be in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Camp, 64, of Meridian, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in his home. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
Survivors include his wife, Fredna Harris Camp of Meridian; a son, Richie Camp and his wife, Carra, of Collinsville; a daughter, Dawn Crawford and her husband, Rodger, of Collinsville; grandchildren, Asa Crawford, Alli Crawford, Ariel Williamson, Seth Camp and Eli Camp; his mother, Kathleen Blaine of Meridian; a brother, Dr. Carroll Camp and his wife, Cheryl, of Glen Burnie, Md.; nieces and nephews, Christy LeJeune, Amy Lott, Molly Lott, Jessy Lott, Lauren Covington and Matt Camp; a sister-in-law, Terry Lott and her husband, Calvin, of Meridian; and a special friend, Karen Harrison of Meridian.
He was preceded in death by his father, R.V. Camp.
Memorials may be made to Harper's Hospice, 1703 24th Ave., Meridian MS 39301.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Gibson, Stanley Hughes, Sedric LeJeune, Calvin Lott, Buster Pace, Benny Harrison, Bill Kahl, Johnny Irby and Matt Camp.
Visitation will be Friday 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home.

QUITMAN Graveside services for John Bennis Goodwin will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jake Williams officiating. Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Goodwin, 58, of Vossburg, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, in his home.
Survivors include his sons, E.W. Goodwin and his wife, Heather, and John Allen Goodwin, all of Vossburg; a daughter, Tess Goodwin of Austin, Texas; and a grandson, Wesley Goodwin of Vossburg.
Pallbearers will be John Milam, David West, Clarence Elfring, Bob Jones, Ronnie Dedwylder and Andy West.
Visitation will be today after 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
