MCC Lady Eagles hit road for Iowa, NJCAA tourney

After winning the 2004 Region XXIII Tournament two weeks ago, the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles secured a spot in the Division II JUCO Fast-Pitch World Series.
The one thing that puzzled most of the Lady Eagles was where is Fort Dodge, Iowa, the new site for the World Series of fast-pitch softball. Rogers Park, located on the campus of Iowa Central Community College will host the 12-team event.
MCC (20-29) will open the first round Thursday at 10 a.m. against Black Hawk College (Ill.). MCC, the only team in the double-elimination event with a losing record, will be looking to surprise some folks.
MCC opened the season having traveled to places in Alabama and Florida, but Iowa is a somewhat unknown place in the United States for the young group from Mississippi.
The Lady Eagles took part in the Okaloosa-Walton Tournament earlier this season, and MCC was a part of the Central Alabama Tournament which has been two of the longest trips of the season for the 10-member team.
Fort Dodge will be hosting the national tournament for the first time and Rogers Park is a new state of the art facility that was built just in time for the beginning of the 2004 season for the Iowa Central Community College softball team.
