The local chapter of the NAACP will host a community rally Monday to honor the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education.
Casandra Sloan, chairman of the NAACP's education committee, said the rally will be held at noon at Dumont Plaza in downtown Meridian. Meridian School Superintendent Sylvia Autry and Lauderdale County School Superintendent David Little will be among the guest speakers.
On May 17, 1954, the Supreme Court ruled against "separate but equal" schools, marking the beginning of integration in the public school system.
Officials from the local NAACP said they encourage the community to come out and participate in a momentous celebration.
