Services for Illean Naylor Temple will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Timothy Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lauderdale. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Temple, 88, of Meridian, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
She received her education in Meridian at St. Joseph Catholic School and the Meridian Public Schools. She graduated from Jackson State University, Tuskegee Institute and completed further studies at Mississippi State University and the University of Southern Mississippi. Mrs. Temple served as school principal in Kemper and Lauderdale Counties, and in the Meridian Public School System. She was coordinator of elementary education and was a member of Meridian Municipal Separate School District Board of Trustees.
She was a dedicated member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she faithfully served as teacher of the adult Sunday school class for more than 20 years. She was president of the United Methodist Women and chairperson of the Administrative Council and the Gospel Chorus.
Survivors include her nieces, Beatrice Trimble and her husband, Nathaniel, Janice Naylor, Carolyn Naylor, Robin Cunningham, Mary Summerville, Elnora Hill and Sheila McVay; nephews, Carl Naylor Jr. and his wife, Hattie and Calvin McVay.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woot Temple; her parents and her two brothers.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services for Jesse W. Weir will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Weir, 89, of Meridian, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Riley Hospital. He was a Methodist, a member of the Moose Lodge and The International Singing Brakeman Association.
Survivors include his sons, Willard Weir and his wife, Lula and Willie Ray Weir and his wife, Rita, all of Meridian; a daughter, Dorothy Wyrick and her husband, Ray, of Ft. Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Wyrick, Jason Weir, Amy Williams, Frankie Weir, Angela Welbourn and Rebecca Weir; three great-grandchildren, Hope Williams, Nathan Weir and Dalton Weir; a sister, Ruth Stevenson of Meridian and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elberta Cooley Weir.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
Pallbearers will be his nephews and grandsons.
Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
LOUISVILLE Services for James K. "Boose" Gregory will be held today at 2 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bobby Joe Butler and Macke Amaker officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Assembly of God Cemetery.
Mr. Gregory, 80, of Louisville, died Saturday, April 24, 2004, in his home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II.
Survivors include his daughter, Jamie King of Louisville; sisters, Lucille Peden, Marlyn Newell, both of DeKalb and Mary Floore of Meridian; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
