MCC splits two with Hinds

Meridian Community College split a pair of Central Division baseball games at Raymond against Hinds Community College Saturday.
MCC took the opener 1-0 and dropped the nightcap 8-7. Christopher Rayborn (5-0) got the win in the first game with Jason Phillips (5-3) taking the loss in the second game. No additional stats were provided.
MCC is 4-2 in league play and 26-5 overall.
JUCO SOFTBALL
EMCC 4-1
Hinds 3-7
East Mississippi Community College split a softball doubleheader against homestanding Hinds Community College on Saturday. The Lady Lions edged out HCC for a 4-3 win in the first game, but lost 7-1 in the nightcap.
No further details were reported,
EMCC hosts Jones Junior College today at 1 p.m.
Meridian CC
The MCC Lady Eagles went 2-4 in the Central Alabama Tournament over the weekend to take their record to 6-23 for the year.
On Friday, MCC fell 5-4 to Wallace-Hanceville, Jessica Lawrence had two hits, including a double, for the Lady Eagles. Raleigh Odom, JorD'an Orr, and Katie Barnett each had two hits. Kirby Shelby had a triple.
Also on Friday, MCC lost 6-5 to Jefferson State in eight innings after leading 4-2 with two outs in the seventh. J.J. Huggins had went 2-for-3 while Lawrence had a triple and Orr had a double.
The Lady Eagles fell 7-6 to Central Alabama in nine innings in another Friday contest. Lawrence went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles. Barnett and Sheena Evans both had two hits, while Orr and Courtney Gray both had a double.
On Saturday, MCC opened with a 1-0 victory over Gadsden State. The Lady Eagles got the game's only run in the first inning. Gray walked, stole second, and scored on Odom's RBI single.
MCC defeated Wallace-Hanceville 7-5 in Saturday's second game. Barnett went 2-for-4, while Lawrence had a double.
In the semifinal round, MCC fell 4-3 to Central Alabama. Orr had a pair of doubles for the Lady Eagles. Huggins and Stephanie Choo both went 2-for-3, while Gray had a double.
PREP BASEBALL
Philadelphia 11
Newton Co. 10
Philadelphia scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a thrilling 11-10 win over visiting Newton County on Saturday.
Newton County took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first and then rallied to score four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 10-9 lead before Philly grabbed the win.
Jason Reed had a single, double and four RBIs for the winners, while Kip Turner had a single, double and two RBIs. Bubba Boler added two singles.
Jared Cavenaugh had two singles, a homer and three RBIs for Newton County, while Will Pearson added a single and homer.
SE Lauderdale 4
Clarkdale 1
The Tigers got a big day from Chris Butler in beating the Bulldogs. Butler was the winning pitcher, striking out nine. He also had three hits.
Southeast also got two hits apiece from Matt Butler and Brandon Booker. Austin Taylor had a double. Brandon Mabry had two hits for Clarkdale.
Enterprise 15
SE Lauderdale 5
Adam Simpson had a big day for the Bulldogs as he belted a solo homer and a three-run shot and was the winning pitcher. Scott Mosley, Lance Irby, and Zeb Swain each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
Booker doubled for the Tigers, while Kyle Dawson had a single and a triple.
Heidelberg Aca. 14-17
Winston Academy 2-7
The homestanding Heidelberg Academy Rebels remained unbeaten by sweeping a District 3-A doubleheader from Winston Academy Friday at Mitch Gavin Memorial Field.
In the opener, the Rebels won, 14-2. Ian Sharp, 5-0, was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and striking out six.
In game two, the Rebels rolled to a 17-7 decision. Sharp belted a three-run homer and singled, while Lewis had a two-run homer and doubled to pace HA. Aultman doubled and singled, and Gibbs singled twice.

Parklane 23-8
Lamar 0-3
The homestanding Lamar School Raiders dropped a pair of conference games to Parklane Academy of McComb on Friday. Parklane won the first game 23-0 behind the complete game pitching of Brantley Ray. The Pioneers won the second game 8-3. No other information was reported.
PREP SOFTBALL
Union 9
Newton County 8
Union scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to knock off Newton County Saturday at Decatur. Morgan Breland had a homer for Union with Tiffany Thomas adding a triple.
Newton County, 15-10, got two singles and a triple from Jennifer Smith and a home run from Dominique Mapp.
Lindsay Walker got the win in relief.
Clarkdale 12
Newton County 5
The Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning and added three more in the second in winning Saturday's contest at Decatur.
Savannah Satcher had two homers and two singles to drive in four runs for Clarkdale, 17-3. Brandi Wright had two singles and Emily Howard added a double. Howard (13-2) was the winning pitcher with 6.2 innings of relief.
Jennifer Smith singled for Newton County's only hit. The Lady Cougars fell to 15-11.
Neshoba Central 8
Philadelphia 2
Neshoba Central scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take an 8-2 win on Friday night.
Sarah Williamson and Sondria Hillie belted homers for the Lady Rockets, while Lindsey Smith had a double and two singles and Kady Chandler added two singles. Smith was also the winning pitcher.
Shenique Brass ripped a homer for Philly, while Candace Griffin had a single and double and Dawn Rushing and Shelby Smith picked up two singles each.
PREP TENNIS
West Lauderdale 4
Union 1
The Knights of West Lauderdale rolled to a 4-1 tennis win over Union on Thursday.
WL's Lea Cook beat Grace McMahan 7-5, 6-4 in girls singles, while Scott Truesdale defeated Addison Griffis 6-2, 6-1 in boys singles.
The West Lauderdale boys doubles team of Eric Smith and Josh Sonak beat Patrick Burns and Wesley Driskell 6-3, 6-3, while the mixed doubles team of Brook Bounds and Matt Schanrock took a 6-3, 6-0 win over April Barnett and Charlie Thomas.
