Southeast taps Trahan as coach

Southeast Lauderdale High School's search for a new head football coach is over.
Ty Trahan, a former all-Conference USA linebacker for the University of Southern Mississippi, is expected to be approved at the March meeting of the Lauderdale County school board.
Trahan, who has been serving as an assistant coach and strength and conditioning coordinator at Klein Forest High School in Houston for the past four years, said he is looking forward to the challenges of building his own football program.
Southeast Lauderdale High School principal Billy Burnham said 33 completed applications were received and 10 candidates were interviewed.
Trahan replaces Dwane Taylor, who led the Tigers for 25 seasons as head coach. Taylor remains the school's athletic director and was a member of the search committee.
Becoming a coach was a natural progression for Trahan after failing in his attempt to make the roster of the San Francisco 49ers out of college.
Trahan says he has begun to put together his summer plan for the Tigers, which finished 1-9 last season.
Trahan is married to the former Wendi Kirkland of Amory. They have two children: 4-year-old Kirkland Davis Trahan and 2-year-old Kortney Dawn Trahan.
