Briarwood loses one of its best

Briarwood Country Club lost one of its most precious members a week ago when Harry Lackey lost his battle with cancer.
Lackey, 74, is one of the main reasons that there is, in fact, a Briarwood Country Club.
While not all of Lackey's visions came to pass, bringing about a top-notch golf course certainly did.
One of Briarwood's biggest tournaments each year is its Labor Day Tournament. Several years ago, it was named in honor of Lackey, a move that showed just how much the Briarwood members thought of him.
Lackey wasn't the greatest golfer to play at Briarwood, but it's unlikely any one enjoyed his time there any more.
Briarwood pro Rob McGraw is in his fourth year at the course and always enjoyed Lackey's company.
A sign of how much Briarwood loved Lackey is that all of his golfing buddies were designated honorary pallbearers at his services last Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Lackey; daughters, Harriet Harper and Cindy Ott; a son, Doug Lackey; three brothers, George Lackey, Will Smith Lackey Jr., and Willie Lackey; and seven grandchildren.
