Knights rule Lauderdale Co. tourney

The West Lauderdale Knights got their 2004 baseball season off to a good start Saturday as they picked up two wins and claimed the Lauderdale County Tournament championship.
The Knights defeated Southeast Lauderdale 12-1 in the first game, and then claimed an 8-1 victory over Clarkdale in the second contest.

The Knights banged out 10 hits en route to their first win of the season.
West scored one in the first and two in the second. Then in the fourth inning, drew Snider belted a two-run homer and Bo Davis doubled in another couple of runs to give West a 7-0 lead. West added three hits in the fifth and another two in the sixth. Southeast Lauderdale's only run came in the fifth when Steve Byrd scored off of David West's double.
Austin Davis had three hits, including a double, for the Knights. Dave Woods added two hits.
Parker Temple pitched five innings to claim the victory, while Brandon Booker took the loss. Southeast, which defeated Clarkdale 3-2 Friday night, fell to 1-1 on the season.

The Bulldogs of Clarkdale loaded the bases in the second and third innings but were unable to score.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning. Corey Hart, who was pitching in relief of Bo Davis, broke the ice when he slammed a big single to score Parker Temple. With the bases loaded, two runs were walked in, and another run came in when the Clarkdale catcher overthrew third base, making the score 4-0. Jay Warren then nailed a big hit to bring in two more runs and West Lauderdale went up 6-0.
The Knights added two more runs in the sixth inning when Davis slammed a home run over the scoreboard, making it 8-0.
Clarkdale got on the scoreboard in the seventh when Kevin McKissack scored on a passed ball. Clarkdale actually outhit West 7-4. Hart was the winning pitcher.
