Seamstress at Vanity Fair
BUTLER, Ala. Graveside services for Johnnie Sager Norwood will be held today at 10 a.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery in Pennington with the Rev. Steve Bruce officiating. Bumpers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Norwood, 78, of Butler, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her sons, Stanley A. Norwood of Rob John and Daniel A. Norwood of Mobile; a daughter, Jackie Snowden of Ward; brothers, Aubrey Sager and Lewis Sager, both of Choctaw; sisters, Eva Wallace of Albany, Ore. and Catherine Fortson of Brownsille, Ore.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Services for James Edgar Boyd Sr. will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Jimmy Harrison and Tommy Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Mr. Boyd, 88, of Gilbertown, Ala., died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, in Gilbertown. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the board of directors for the church. He was a retired conductor for GM&O Railroad.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Linton and her husband, Owen, of Denham Springs, La.; a son, James E. Boyd Jr. and his wife, Marcus, of Gilbertown; two sisters, Lucille McGee of Macon and Ora Hudnall of Porterville; six grandchildren, Bruce Linton and his wife, Marsha, of Florence, S.C., Michael Linton and his wife, Etta, of Vidor, Texas, Jonathan Boyd, Jordan Boyd, Jade Boyd and Ethan Boyd, all of Gilbertown; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Brooke Linton of Florence; a great-grandson, James Boyd Linton of Vidor; several nieces and nephews; and a special caretaker and friend, Ron Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janell Rasberry Boyd; his parents, Claiborn K. Boyd and his wife, Ovilla; three brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

NEWTON Services for Thomas E. "Tommy" Scoggin Sr. will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church in Newton with the Rev. David Airhart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Scoggin, 74, of Newton, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was a retired foreman from Shell Oil Company.
Survivors include his daughters, Vivan Pierce of Newton and Cherry Weber of St. Charles, Ill.; sons, Thomas E. Gene Scoggin Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Spring, Texas, Clay Scoggin and his wife, Brenda, of Alexandria, La., Clint Scoggin and his wife, Tanya, and Cliff Scoggin and his wife, Suzanne, all of Decatur; sisters, Lillian Jones of Alexandria, La., Mildred Laird of Shreveport, La. and Jan Gressett of Newton; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a special friend, Tina Leach of Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.D. and Lorene Scoggin and a brother, Ed Scoggin.
Pallbearers will be Larry Blackburn, Kenny Harris, Randy Walters, Andy Milling, Austin Griffin and Billy Pierce.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
QUITMAN Services for Betty Hawes will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home chapel with Bobby Finley officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery.
Mrs. Hawes, 91, of Shubuta, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
ANDERSON, Ind. Services for Jesse Jennings will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at L.C. May Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Vionte Traylor officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Jennings, 70, of Anderson, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Manor Care Nursing Home. He was a resident of Anderson since 1959. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Jennings; a step-son, Tony Jordan; his mother, Rachel Jennings, five grandchildren; sisters, Cornelia Jennings Warren, Geneva Jennings Walker, all of Anderson, several cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Zema Jennings and a niece, Marilyn Y. Warren.
Arrangements were incomplete at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home for Winfred Ruffin, 52, of Meridian, who died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
