Lamar will field mature team

Tori Johnson admits that the Lamar slow-pitch softball team needs someone to have a breakout year, but she's not worried. She has plenty of candidates.
Lamar returns five seniors and seven starters to this year's squad, which was 15-8 in 2003.
Two of the Lady Raiders' seniors, shortstop Lizzie Williams and outfielder Celia Covington, will be counted on heavily, according to Johnson.
And with a veteran team like hers, Johnson said the Lady Raiders have plenty of possibilities.
If that happens, Johnson said, the sky is the limit. After a quick exit from last year's state tournament, the Lady Raiders have retooled and beefed up their schedule to prepare for the competition in the tournament's late rounds.
Lamar opens its season at home on March 2.
