War Eagles look to stay perfect

The Wayne County War Eagles remained perfect last Friday with a big 28-13 win over McComb and look for much of the same tonight against Florence.
Other games in the South Area coverage area this week include: Newton County Academy at Wayne, Kemper Academy at Sylva-Bay Academy, Quitman at Newton County, Hinds AHS. at Heidelberg, Winston Academy at Heidelberg Academy, Enterprise at Newton and South Jones at Bay Springs.
The War Eagles had a big game from three players in the win against the previous ninth-ranked McComb squad. Quarterback J.J. Taylor, Michael McLaughlin and Jerrod Sims all collected over 100 yards rushing apiece in the road victory for Wayne County.
McLaughlin led the offense with a pair of rushing touchdowns of 52 and four yards. Sims added a two-yard touchdown in the second quarter to pace the War Eagles.
Winston Academy at
Heidelberg Academy
After starting the season 0-2, the Rebels have rebounded and won two straight and are looking for much of the same against Winston Academy. Heidelberg took a 42-6 win over Newton County Academy last Friday night and used a balanced offense to get the job done.
Brent Welch led the Rebel attack with 71 yards rushing on six carries, while Wesley Parker collected 62 yards on six carries for the Rebels. Welch also finished the game with a rushing touchdown. Heidelberg Academy moved its district record to 2-0 with the win over the Generals.
Hinds AHS

The Oilers opened the 2003 season with a loss against Quitman and since that point the year has turned around. After wins over Port Gibson and Kemper County, Heidelberg will return home to take on Hinds AHS.
The Oilers took a 41-0 shutout win over Kemper County this past Friday night to move its record to 2-1. Heidelberg went out to a 34-0 lead at halftime and never looked back in the win.
Doug Ryans scored a pair of touchdowns in the first half to give the Oilers a big lead at the half. One of the two scores for Ryans was on a 60-yard punt return. Donny Bramlett and William Sims provided touchdowns on defense in the game.

at Wayne Academy
The Jaguars suffered a heartbreaker against Oak Forest (La.) Academy last Friday 14-7 and will be searching for answers this week against Newton County Academy.
Wayne could only score one touchdown in the loss to Oak Forest and it came on a 19-yard rushing touchdown by Patton Stanley.
The General's offense is also looking for some production after dropping a 42-6 loss to Heidelberg Academy. The lone score for the Generals was on special teams, as Dustin McGowin returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown.
Kemper Academy
at Sylva-Bay Academy
After being down 7-0 early in the first quarter, the Saints stormed back to score 20 points and take a 20-7 win over Winston Academy. John Thompson got Sylva-Bay on the board with a 10-yard run followed by a 20-yard touchdown pass from Thompson to Ryan Mathis.
The final score to secure the win came on a five-yard score from Cody Phillips to extend the Saints record to 3-1. Kemper Academy will be entering the game after a 43-6 setback at the hands of Macon Central Academy. The only touchdown of the night for Kemper Academy came on a 52-yard score by Ricky Robinson.
South Jones
at Bay Springs
Bay Springs will be heading back home after a thrilling 18-12 overtime win on the road last week against Newton. The big play of the game came in the overtime period on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Chris Fleming to Phillip Sims.
The other big score for the Bulldogs in the game came early in the first quarter on a three-yard touchdown run by Ronnie McCullum. The Bulldogs will be looking for its third win of the season at home against the South Jones Braves. South Jones took a hard loss to West Jones last week by a final count of 41-0.
