D'Angelo to have MRI tests

HATTIESBURG The University of Southern Mississippi's Micky D'Angelo will undergo tests today, after the junior quarterback suffered the fourth concussion of his career last Saturday.
D'Angelo left late in the first half of the Golden Eagles' 23-6 victory over the University of Memphis Tigers (2-1, 0-1 Conference USA) at M.M. Roberts Stadium.
D'Angelo was 4-for-11 for 58 yards, with one interception, in the opening half of the win that boosted the Eagles' record to 2-1 (2-0 C-USA).
Sophomore Dustin Almond took over the signal calling duties in the second half against the Tigers throwing for 44 yards going 3-of-14.
USM could have two starters back on the field for the contest against Nebraska at Roberts Stadium, which will be televised on ESPN.
Guard Travis Cooley had knee surgery last week and missed the
Memphis game. Defensive end Terrell Paul has missed the last two games with a knee injury.
Bower said it was possible the two players could return, but it was too early to tell if they would.
While the Eagles will not know what their quarterback situation is until after D'Angelo's MRI results, USM will need its running game to improve heading into the squads game against Nebraska (3-0, 0-0 Big XII) on Sept. 25.
Despite gaining 205 yards on the ground against Memphis, Bower said his offensive back field has plenty of work to do heading into the game against the Cornhuskers.
USM's defense will need to prepare for Nebraska's powerful running game.
The Cornhuskers have rumbled for 878 yards in three games, while the offense has only passed for 270 yards.
With a week and a half before the game, the Golden Eagles will have a modified practice schedule leading to the game.
USM kicks off against Nebraska at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 25.
