COLUMBUS The number one ranked Wayne County War Eagles scored two first period touchdowns here Friday night to defeat the number 18th-ranked Columbus Falcons 13-0.
The War Eagles took the opening kickoff and marched 70 yards in 14 plays to score on a third down run of 21yards by senior fullback Michael McLaughlin. The key plays in the scoring drive were a 28-yard run by quarterback J.J. Taylor plus the senior signal caller completed two passes to Marion Davis to keep the drive alive.
Columbus took the War Eagle kickoff and moved to the Wayne County 4-yard line. Lane rambled 45 yards on the third play, but penalties by the Falcons forced a 28-yard field goal attempt that failed.
Wayne came right back and moved 80 yards to score. The drive was only five plays long, but the big play was the key to the drive. Taylor scored on a 25-yard run with 23 seconds to play in the opening period, and Breck Mills kicked the conversion that put the War Eagles up 13-0. Jerrod Sims ran 19 and 23 yards on the drive.
