Mississippi Junior Miss contestants arrive Sunday

They arrive in Meridian Sunday from all over the state. They are here to compete for more than $22,750 in college-granted scholarships. They are Mississippi's 38 Junior Miss contestants.
Meridian will host the 47th annual state program at the Temple Theatre on Thursday through Saturday night.
The Junior Miss program exists to recognize and reward young women who have distinguished themselves at school and in their community with educational scholarships.
Contestants will be evaluated in scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and poise.
The competition for scholarships begins at the local level in Mississippi towns and cities. Local winners go on to the state competition in Meridian where a selection is made for the Mississippi representative.
The current Junior Miss is Beth Finch of Clinton.
This week the contestants will go through rehearsals and make several public appearances, including a fashion show and autograph party at Montana's on Front Street. The event is open to the public and will be from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesday.
