West Lauderdale High School held its annual athletic banquet on May 20.
Among the honors handed out were the Lady Knight and Richard May Awards, which are given to the school's top male and female athletes.
The Lady Knight award winner was Meridian Community College tennis signee Amy Frazier. Frazier was a standout on West Lauderdale's tennis, softball and basketball teams.
The Lady Knight award is given annually to the Lady Knight who best represents the values of knighthood, courage and dedication.
C. Jay Fountain was the recipient of the Richard May award. He was a member of West Lauderdale's baseball and football teams.
The award is named in honor of Richard May, a former student athlete at West Lauderdale in the 1960s.
May joined the military and was killed in Vietnam, and according to Ethridge, the award is given to the student who represented the values May did. "He is an excellent young man," Ethridge said of Fountain.
