Newton Theater Company holds auditions for Hello Dolly

Lori Muse, vice-president of the Newton Theatre Company, said anyone who has ever wanted to be on stage should try out for a production of "Hello, Dolly!"
The Broadway classic "Hello, Dolly!" centers around Dolly Levi, a well-known matchmaker, who attempts to find herself a husband in the wealthy Horace Vandergelder.
Meanwhile, she matches together a rich widow, Irene Molloy, with Vandergelder's employee, Cornelius Hackl. Dolly also sets up Molloy's assistant, Minnie, with Cornelius's assistant, Barnaby.
That's not all. Dolly also matches the poor artist, Ambrose, with Vandergelder's niece, Ermengarde. In the end, after a ruckus at an upscale restaurant and a court case, Dolly convinces Vandergelder to marry her.
The Newton Theater Company will hold auditions for the show Saturday at 10 a.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. and Monday at 6 p.m. at the Roxy Theater in Newton. The show will mark Muse's directorial debut at the theater.
Muse is a native of Meridian and a graduate of Millsaps College where she majored in theater. She has worked as choreographer for the Newton theater for the past six years.
Grace Norman is the musical director.
The cast includes 17 characters as well as a chorus. Those who wish to audition must bring a tape to sing to or music will be provided.
Dolly, Horace and Irene each have a solo song and Ambrose, Cornelius, Barnaby and Minnie each have solo parts within other's songs.
In addition to the main cast, there are eight supporting roles as well as the chorus and the waiters. Muse said she would like to have eight to 10 girls with rhythm to try out for the roles of the waiters.
