Country music fans from as far away as Canada are expected to arrive in Meridian this weekend for a week-long celebration of the 50th Annual Jimmie Rodgers Festival.
TISBA is sponsoring several gatherings next week, beginning with Sunday's Pickin' in the Plaza set for 1 p.m. at Dumont Plaza in downtown Meridian.
Sunday afternoon, local country and bluegrass performers will provide the entertainment. Food vendors will also be set up in the park.
Also on Sunday, at 4 p.m., TISBA members will open a hospitality room at the Best Western Motel at 2219 South Frontage Road. The room will open at 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday. On Thursday, the Sky Family from Nashville will perform at 8 p.m.
Music isn't the only thing headlining this year's events. On Wednesday, there will be a covered dish supper at 7 p.m.
The public is invited to gather with TISBA members in the hospitality room. A handmade quilt and a $400 acoustic guitar will be raffled. Tickets are $5.
Other upcoming events planned as part of the 50th Annual Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Festival include:
May 8: A gospel concert featuring The McKameys and The Inspirations will begin at 7 p.m. at Northcrest Baptist Church, 3412 North Hills St. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Call Richard Ferguson at 677-2844, or the church at 482-3498.
