April 30, 2003
Mississippi's top senior in the class of 2003 is Lamar School's own Dave Hicks, so named as the number one STAR student in scholarship competition sponsored by the Mississippi Economic Council.
Hicks received a $24,000 scholarship awarded by the Kelly Gene Cook Sr. Charitable Foundation as an award for his selection over 250 other STAR students across the state. This outstanding senior earned a perfect score on the ACT and has participated in many academic and athletic activities. Being named number one in the state is a tremendous achievement and we congratulate him for it. At the same time we salute Lamar English teacher Margaret L. Nicholson, chosen by Hicks as STAR Teacher.
And, we wish Hicks well on his future studies. He plans to attend Texas A&M, where he has been admitted to the Engineering Scholars Program and will major in mechanical engineering.
