Lauderdale County's DUI officers, deputies David Rosenbaum and Mike McCarra, will be recognized today at a luncheon in Jackson for their enforcement of Mississippi's DUI laws.
Both will be inducted into the Mississippi Highway Patrol's "100 Club" established in 1983 to recognize law enforcement officers who make 100 or more DUI arrests during a calendar year.
Both Rosenbaum and McCarra have received the honor many times before.
Last year, Rosenbaum was recognized for more than 300 DUI arrests during 2001.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said alcohol was a factor in seven of the nine fatalities on Lauderdale County roads in 2002.
Calhoun said that while Rosenbaum and McCarra will receive recognition for their DUI arrests, the success of the department is a team effort. He said the DUI officers are often called to the scene by other deputies after an initial traffic stop.
MPD INDUCTEE
Assistant Chief Keith McCary of the Meridian Police Department said Senior Patrol Officer Donald Jenkins will also be inducted today into the Mississippi Highway Patrol's "100 Club."
