It took nine innings, but the Southeast Tigers were finally able to fight off the Clarkdale Bulldogs to pick up a win in baseball action Saturday.
Tyler Harper hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to power the Tigers to a 9-7 victory. The blast was Harper's second two-run homer of the game.
Southeast battled back from a 6-3 deficit to take the win and improve to 8-8 on the season.
The Bulldogs couldn't overcome mistakes and errors to pick up the victory.
The Bulldogs took an early lead as Brandon Mabry was hit by a pitch and stole second. He moved over to third on a sacrifice by Kevin McKissick and scored on a single by Michael Davis to make the score 1-0.
Southeast answered with a run in the second. An error allowed Drew Parker to move to second base and a ground ball past a Clarkdale infielder allowed Parker to score and tie the game at one.
Southeast added two runs in the third inning on Harper's first home run of the game.
Clarkdale answered with a four-run third inning. Mabry reached on an error and McKissick singled. Davis singled in Mabry, and McKissick scored on a balk to tie the game.
Brent Mabry brought in a run later in the inning with a walk, and Eric Seale brought in a run with a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-3.
After Clarkdale scored another run in the fourth, the Tigers had a three-run inning to take back the lead. Parker doubled and Brandon Booker singled him in. Tyler Overby singled to move Booker to third.
Steven Boyd and Clay McRee each followed with a squeeze bunt to bring in two runs and give Southeast a 7-6 lead.
Clarkdale came back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh as Blake Johnson came around on two wild pitches and a passed ball.
Harper and the Tigers closed out the scoring with two runs in the ninth. James Pierce walked with two outs, and Harper followed with his second home run to make the score 9-7.
Harper, who also picked up the win on the mound, closed out the bottom of the ninth to give Southeast the win.
Clarkdale dropped to 9-12 on the year with the loss. The Bulldogs will host Newton High on Tuesday in a game that will decide the district winner.
Southeast hosts Choctaw Central on Tuesday.
