Robbery attempt fails; police search for suspect

Meridian police are investigating a failed robbery attempt that happened in a supermarket parking lot on Wednesday night.
Police Detective Dean Harper said a man armed with a handgun approached a woman outside the Winn-Dixie off Highway 19 North and demanded her money. Harper said the suspect fled on foot after the robbery attempt was unsuccessful.
Harper described the suspect as black, 6 feet 2 inches tall. No further information was available about the crime, which happened at about 10 p.m.
