Lamar players, coach enjoy All-Star game

Three Lamar seniors and Raiders coach Eddie Escobar were a part of MPSA soccer history recently as all four were involved in the first-ever MPSA all-star soccer games.
Latham Farley, Dave Hicks and Wilson Kahlmus played in the MPSA AAA game to represent the Raiders and Escobar coached the South team on March 7 at Mississippi College.
Though the South fell 3-1 in the game to the North, Lamar was well represented in the game. Only Jackson Prep, which won the state championship this season, had more players on the South team.
The players were selected to play in the game by a vote by the MPSA soccer coaches.
Farley and Hicks overcame ankle injuries during the season to make the team for Lamar. The two battled half the year with injuries, but helped lead the Raider defense.
Farley started the year at right fullback and also played sweeper for the Raiders this season. He played on the right side for the South defense in the all-star game.
Hicks played sweeper for the Raiders this season and started the all-star game at sweeper before getting hurt. He combined with Farley to help shut down the North early in the game.
With Hicks out of the ball game, the North scored two goals to break open a 1-1 tie.
Kahlmus played in the center midfield for the Raiders during the season and also started for the South.
The players closed out their varsity soccer careers, but will be back on the field to help Escobar in Lamar soccer camps this summer.
Escobar, who is in his first season with the Raiders, coached the South and was also the coach of the South team in the girl's first ever all-star game early this school year.
